Take our quiz to understand if you’re a good fit for Electron Beam sterilization

Packaging Applications

Enhance product safety by eliminating harmful microorganisms with the precision and speed of E-Beam microbial reduction and inactivation.

Medical Device Packaging

Protect the sterility of vitally important products with unique requirements – especially those with complex and safety-critical packaging.
Eliminate concern and risk attached to EO residuals and long-lead times for Gamma processing.

Food & Beverage Packaging

Eliminate bacteria, molds, and fungi through microbial reduction with E-Beam. Safely and effectively treat liners, fitments, pouches, bottle closures, and a wide variety of packaging products.

Cosmetic Packaging

Reduce the bioburden across a variety of packaging materials and form factors: components, applicators, and brushes.

Pharmaceutical & Bioprocess Packaging

Provision packaging for high precision, high-capacity single-use systems that is ultra-clean and ready for large-scale applications.

Other Packaging Applications

Leverage E-Beam as a well-understood and future-proof form of radiation sterilization, microbial inactivation, and bioreduction to improve supply chain robustness and optionality.

Why Packaging Industry Leaders Are Choosing E-Beam

Quick & Efficient

E-Beam sterilizes packaging in seconds with no residuals, making products safe and ready for distribution. Our $20M facility handles high daily volumes for fast delivery.

Sustainable & Safe

E-Beam uses conventional power and is a greener alternative to Gamma and Ethylene Oxide, without carcinogenic or radioactive materials.

Versatile & Effective

E-Beam works well with common packaging materials and is compatible with Gamma- and EO-qualified products. We offer fast, affordable trials to ensure packaging integrity.

Reliable Results

Our ISO-certified process ensures precise microbial control and large-scale sterilization without heat or prolonged radiation, maintaining packaging quality.

Packaging Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. E-Beam can significantly reduce mold and mildew by delivering a controlled microbial reduction dose to contaminated packaging or finished goods. The process does not use heat or moisture, so cartons, films, pouches, and rigid containers maintain their structure and appearance. Effectiveness depends on species, starting load, and how deeply the mold is embedded. Surface level or low level contamination responds very well. If the packaging or product is visibly damaged by moisture or heavy mold growth, E-Beam can reduce the microbial load but cannot reverse cosmetic or structural damage. A quick feasibility dose test confirms the reduction achievable for your specific packaging material.

Yes. Many packaging suppliers use E-Beam to sterilize empty components before filling or assembly. Low and medium density materials such as PET preforms, closures, films, liners, and trays process well. Dose mapping confirms penetration through cases of nested or stacked components.

Most common packaging materials maintain seal integrity, oxygen and moisture barrier performance, and optical clarity at microbial reduction or sterilization doses. Multi layer films vary based on resin blend and tie layers. A max dose study quickly verifies stability under your required conditions.

Yes, as long as items share similar density, thickness, and dose requirements. For example, a mix of closures and preforms may be compatible, while heavy trays and thin films should be separated to achieve the required dose uniformity ratio. Dose mapping identifies whether a mixed load is feasible.

Uniform wall thickness, simpler nesting, and consistent density help achieve even dose distribution. Avoiding deep cavities, highly shielded areas, or tightly nested stacks reduces dose variability and helps result in lower-DUR (and thus more economical and flexible) E-Beam processing.

FAQs

E-Beam has gained traction as a superior sterilization method for a variety of packaging applications. It is well-known for its ability to effectively penetrate terminally packaged products without creating harmful residuals (a risk with EO) or unnecessary oxidative effects (as is possible with Gamma). Products evaluated in our state-of-the-art dosimetry lab are carefully assessed for quality or material changes while we determine optimal dosing measurements.
  • Maintains the integrity and safety of a range of packaging products.
  • Helps customers assure that packaging will not introduce contaminants into their production processes.
  • Ensures unparalleled quality control by meeting or exceeding rigorous ISO 13485, ISO 11137, and ISO 9001 measures.
  • Individual products usually only need a few seconds of precisely calculated irradiation, making processing bulk products and large shipments highly efficient. Once irradiated, products are immediately safe for handling: E-Beam leaves no trace of chemicals or radiation.
  • NextBeam’s state-of-the-art facility is designed for high throughput and typically processes product in under 5 days. Expedite options can be made available.
