Take our quiz to understand if you’re a good fit for Electron Beam sterilization

Food & Consumer Applications

E-Beam excels at extending product shelf-life and safeguarding consumers by reducing bioburden across a diverse group of food and consumer industries.

Enhanced Food Safety

Protect consumers by implementing a critical kill step that eradicates bacteria and viruses responsible for foodborne illnesses like Salmonella, E. coli, and Listeria monocytogenes.

Preservation of Nutritional Properties

Maintain the nutritional integrity of dried plants, herbs, and spices while effectively eliminating harmful microorganisms.

Optimized Dietary Supplements

Preserve or enhance the qualities of dietary supplements and ingredients, such as resveratrol, through E-Beam bioreduction and microbial destruction processes.

Pet Food Safety

E-Beam radiation ensures at least a five-log reduction on all pathogens, eliminating contaminants in pet foods, treats, and laboratory animal feed to prevent spoilage and illness.

Sanitary Consumer Products & Packaging

E-Beam sanitizes key cosmetic ingredients, like pigments, during processing to ensure cleanliness and safety, providing customers with peace of mind in the final product.

Why Food Industry Leaders Are Choosing E-Beam

Large Volume Processing
Pallets of product can be processed with low dosage in just a few minutes.

Fast Turnaround
Products are processed quickly and are immediately safe for handling, so there are no delays in distribution to consumers.

Versatile & Effective
E-Beam technology delivers a critical kill step, providing unmatched microbial control by eliminating bacteria, pathogens, and foodborne illnesses at every stage of production—all while safeguarding product quality and building consumer trust.

Reliable Results
E-Beam’s cold process safeguards your food products and raw ingredients, preventing any heat-related damage or alterations.

Food & Consumer Frequently Asked Questions

E-Beam is a cold process with very short exposure time, so it does not cook or heat products. Most dry foods, botanicals, powders, spices, and consumer goods maintain taste, aroma, and color at microbial reduction doses. Sensitive natural colorants or oils may need max dose testing to confirm appearance and flavor stability, but for most products, at typical microbial reduction doses there is no material change to the product.

E-Beam and other radiation technologies are intended to be used on finished, packaged products. The only limitation here is as to whether the product may be dose mapped successfully: e.g. E-Beaming the product results in doses throughout the packaged product above the minimum required for microbial inactivation and below the maximum allowable dose. Stand up pouches, cartons, films, and rigid containers usually qualify. Processing finished goods reduces handling steps and prevents re-contamination risk, which is a major advantage over some thermal or chemical processes.

E-Beam provides microbial reduction without heat, moisture, or chemicals. This preserves organoleptic qualities while achieving strong pathogen control. For example, small doses of E-Beam irradiation can extend the shelf life of strawberries from days to weeks (“The Application of Electron Beam Irradiation on Fruits” academic paper). Compared to thermal processing, E-Beam avoids cooking or drying effects. Compared to chemical fumigation, it avoids residues and regulatory restrictions. Many companies adopt E-Beam when they need clean label processing.

Yes. In the US, Per 21 CFR 179.26(c), certain food categories require the Radura symbol, depending on product type and dose. Personal care and cosmetic products typically do not require special labeling but may require supporting stability data. Requirements vary by product type and regulatory region.
