Electron beam irradiation, also called E-Beam, can be validated to reduce Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes, E. coli, and other microorganisms in raw pet food, frozen pet food, freeze-dried products, jerky treats, chews, and high-protein treats.
The actual reduction level depends on the target pathogen, treatment dose, product density, moisture level, package thickness, and final product configuration. A 5-log reduction is a common food safety target, but the right target should be established through product-specific validation.
