NextBeam’s Nick Brydon Appointed Co-Chair of AAMI Microbiological Methods Working Group

North Sioux City, SD — NextBeam is proud to announce that our Head of Sterilization, Nick Brydon, has been appointed Co-Chair of AAMI Sterilization Working Group 08 (ST/WG08), the U.S. mirror committee to ISO Technical Committee 198 Working Group 08 for Microbiological Methods used for health care products.

WG-08 develops standards and guidance for microbiological test methods in the medical device industry including the ISO 11737 series. These standards form the foundation of global sterilization practices across the medical device and pharmaceutical industries.

Responsibilities of working group Co-chairs include leading committee discussions, facilitating consensus experts within the United States on technical revisions, and representing the U.S. at ISO meetings. The appointment underscores both his deep technical expertise and long-standing contributions to the field.

“Nick has earned the respect of peers across the sterilization community by combining deep technical knowledge with a practical, collaborative approach,” said Andrew Patton, CEO of NextBeam. “His leadership in this role will help shape standards that impact patient safety worldwide.”

Nick serves on multiple AAMI committees for quality systems and industrial sterilization and has contributed to recent updates in the ISO 11137 series for radiation sterilization, ST72 for endotoxin testing, and ISO 11737 for microbiological methods. Nick has published on mathematical modeling for radiation processing and pre vs post sterilization endotoxin testing, and is leading U.S. efforts to update standards and regulations related to endotoxin testing in context of sterilization.

At NextBeam, Nick leads process development, dose mapping, and technical client support—helping device manufacturers navigate the complexities of radiation sterilization with clarity and confidence.

His appointment comes at a critical time, as the industry continues to shift away from ethylene oxide (EO) and seeks harmonized international standards for alternative modalities like E-beam and X-ray.
